Sports bra special – Moving Comfort

Brooks Moving Comfort

Not all sports bras are created equal!

As it says in the Moving Comfort ‘Bra Book’… not all sports bras are created equal!

Moving Comfort pride themselves on being the best-fitting and best-functioning sports bras available on the market. The company was developed by 2 women – Ellen Wessel and Elizabeth Goeke – after a disappointing shopping trip for sport bras. They discovered that they could get functionable or fashionable… But not both! Ladies, I am sure that sounds familiar?!

So, they set out to create something that was supportive, comfortable and stylish. Hence the beginning of Moving Comfort!

Their mission statement is simple ‘Inspire women to move with confidence’ –

Would it surprise you to know that 1 in 3 women are embarrassed by breast bounce when they exercise, and 1 in 4 women say that it limits their enjoyment of being active? My guess is probably not! Despite it being a pretty shocking statistic, you yourself have probably had personal experience of this or know someone who has. Moving Comfort’s mission is to change this.

Brooks Moving ComfortAn unbelievable 40% of women don’t wear a sports bra when exercising, and when you think the average cup size in the UK is a D, that’s a lot of jiggle! There are a few common misconceptions around sports bras, including a perception that smaller cup sizes don’t qualify for a sports bra. Or that your day to day bra is fit for exercise too. In actual fact, a good sports bra is as important as specialist running shoes, no matter what your breast size. Unsupported, an A cup moves around 4cm during excercise and a D cup bounces as much as 8cm!

Getting fitted for a sports bra needn’t be a daunting process. In every Run4It shop, all the female staff are fully trained to fit sports bras… Even some guys are too! You will always be made to feel completely relaxed and comfortable throughout the fitting process.

The ‘4 fundamentals of fit’ –

When fitting a sports bra, we focus on 4 areas to achieve a first-rate fit:

  1. Band It should sit as snugly as is comfortable. Remember you still need to be able to breathe! It shouldn’t ride up at the back. You should be able to fit 2 fingers underneath the band.
  2. Cups  They should encompass all the breast tissue, and the fabric should be smooth. You don’t want to be hanging over the top of the bra, or have it gaping at the top.
  3. Underwire  This should sit on the ribcage below the breast tissue.
  4. Straps  These shouldn’t dig into the shoulders, nor should they slide off when exercising.

As with performance running shoes, a sports bra should be replaced every 6-12 months dependent on use. It’s also advisable not to use the same sports bra for every activity. When doing a yoga or pilates class for example, you may find you don’t need the same level of support from a bra, as you do for running. And can enjoy lighterweigt fabrics or finer straps.

Find the best-fitting bra for you –

To help you determine which bra is most suited to your needs, Moving Comfort have created 3 collections – Secure, Stabilise & Fully Loaded each collection bearing 4 attributes: comfort, fit, support, and style.Brooks Moving Comfort

Emma is probably the least competitive runner you’ll come across, but loves how her Garmin pushes her to improve on every run. She mainly runs 10ks, as she can get that done and dusted under the hour, and that definitely seems long enough… But who knows, maybe she’ll be inspired and up the distance this year!
